SAFETY ISSUES AND REGULATORY CHALLENGES OF NANOMATERIALS is a two days Symposium that will be held on the 3rd and 4th May 2012 at CIC biomaGUNE San Sebastián (Spain).
It is jointly organized by the coordinators of four European FP7 Projects HINAMOX, NANOPOLYTOX, NEPHH and ENPRA, and by The Joint Research Centre (JRC) from the European Commission. The organizers are representing institutions actively working in the field of nanotechnology and nanosafety: CIC biomaGUNE (San Sebastian, Spain), LEITAT Technological Centre (Barcelona, Spain), Ekotek (Bilbao, Spain), The Institute of Occupational Medicine (Edinburgh, UK) and The Joint Research Centre (Ispra, Italy).

The Symposium aims to:
  • Present to a broad audience the latest results and progress of the European FP7 Projects: HINAMOX, NANOPOLYTOX, NEPHH and ENPRA.
  • Present the state of the art and recent developments in the legislation and regulations in the EU and the world concerning nanomaterials.
  • Share knowledge and experiences about the critical issues specific for the risk assessment and LCA of nanomaterials in a regulatory context.
  • Identify the needs and challenges for policy making and regulation of nanotechnology based materials.
  • Trigger discussion and networking among experts in the different fields of nanosafety.
The Symposium will include scientific presentations from very well known scientists from the different disciplines involved in nanosafety and will include sessions on:
Session 1.
Four EU Projects – Four Different Ways to Approach NanoSafety
Session 2.
REGULATORY Testing of NMs and International Dimension
Session 3.
Challenges in NanoSafety Research: New Materials and Detection Technologies
Session 4.
NMs Interactions with Living Systems
Session 5.
Exposure and Risk Assessment of Nanomaterials
Session 6.
Life Cycle Assessment Analysis and End of Life Processes Sustainability for Nanotechnology-based Products

This Scientific Program will be complemented with a poster session thus allowing the presentation of relevant scientific outcomes in the areas above.

Symposium jointly organized by:
