On the 8th of February the European Commission presented the results of the public consultation on the EU strategy for 2020. These two documents in the context of the preparation of "Europe 2020”, the future successor of the Lisbon strategy.

The strategy "Europe 2020" will build on the successes and achievements of the Lisbon Strategy since its reintroduction in 2005, focusing on growth and employment, but also address some of its shortcomings, so that the Commission has prepared, in this context, an assessment of the Lisbon strategy.

The European Commission launched a public consultation on the strategy "EU 2020" in November 2009, which ended on 15 January 2010. The consultation paper asked how the European Union's strategy for 2020 will focus on enhancing the recovery from the crisis, trying to prevent another similar can be replicated in future and also in three thematic objectives: to create value through knowledge, empowering citizens in inclusive societies and create a competitive, connected and greener. In total 1,500 were received contributions from a wide range of partners and stakeholders. The EESC (European Economic and Social Committee) presented in a paper also published in November 2009, their views on the direction you should take this strategy and therefore the EU when the period of validity of the Lisbon Strategy.
