LEITAT AND THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF PROFESSIONAL TRAINING, JOIN TO PROMOTE TECHNICAL TRAINING AND RESEARCH PROJECTS MANAGEMENT
The Technological Center LEITAT and the Directorate General of Vocational Training of the Generalitat of Catalonia signed on 14 December, a collaboration agreement to promote the dissemination of technological knowledge and R +D+I in Terrassa´s education institutes. This agreement, which took effect this school year 2009/2010 and will remain in force until the end of the school year 2011/2012, was signed by the executive director of the The Technological Center LEITAT, Albert Matarrodona, and Director General of the Department for Vocational, Artistic and Specialized Education of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Josep Francí i Carreté.

LEITAT PARTICIPATES IN THE R+D+4I PROJECT
Leitat is one of the entities participating in the project R+D+4I Euro Action Group, an initiative launched by various institutions from some major economic locomotive regions of the EU trying to respond to the challenges and opportunities that globalization represents for the European economy.

LEITAT´S STUDY EXAMINES THE FEASIBILITY OF REUSING WATER OUT OF THREE WWTPs OF VALLÈS OCCIDENTAL
The Technological Center LEITAT has done, in 2009, a feasibility study of the reuse of water for industrial uses from three of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) stations of Vallés Occidental: in particular, a WWTP located in Terrassa and two embedded in the municipality of Viladecavalls: Viladecavalls WWTP Viladecavalls East and West.

LEITAT WELCOMES THE MEETING OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CONSORTIUM OF EUROPEAN PROJECT ECHOMETER
The Technological Center LEITAT welcomed, on the 20th of January, the follow-up meeting of the European project Echometer consortium formed by Env-Aqua, a coordinating body, C-Tech Innovation Ltd, Aguacure, Protection des métaux (PROMETRE), Union des Industries de Traitements de Surfaces (UITS) and Leitat. During the meeting, the second to be held since the project began in June 2009, addressed the technical progress achieved so far by the Echometer initiative. Likewise, the meeting offered participants as well, the opportunity to visit and see the facilities of the technological center.

WIN-D PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
On January 12, it was presented in Barcelona World Race the Consortium El Far, WIN-D, a collaborative research project on industrial and technological innovation. The overall objectives of this project focus on developing new products and processes that bring added value and competitiveness to companies, the positioning of the Catalan company under the high competition of ocean racing and the promotion of R+D projects in cooperation between the agents of Catalan knowledge and business network.

THE ENTERPRISE "COOKED IN BARCELONA" REWARDED FOR ITS TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION
The incorporation of new technologies and the desire to innovate are worth a prize. This is demonstrated by the recognition that the Barcelona City Council has granted to the textile company, Cooked in Barcelona, thanks to the implementation of a system implemented by Saident, a company specialized in the creation and integration of solutions based on identification technology (RFID). The recognition was conducted in the framework of the Barcelona Awards, the best shop in the world.

The facilities of La Mola Hotel and Conference Center in Terrassa, welcomed, on the 15th of December, the day Lean Management as a tool for business competitiveness, organized by the Technological Center Leitat and AEI (Association of Innovative Enterprises).

COMPLETION OF THE RETO PROJECT
The Technological Center´s bet to increase the competitiveness of the Catalan textile business is unquestionable; a good example of this is the proposed project Innoempresa Supra regional RETO (CHALLENGE). The RETO project has aimed to provide textile companies of the participating regions (Catalonia and Castile la Mancha) diagnostic technology that can enable a strategic reorientation to adapt to the changing conditions and needs of the market.

THE EUROPEAN CHEMICALS AGENCY (ECHA) PROPOSES FIFTEEN NEW SUBSTANCES TO BE AUTHORIZED
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in Helsinki (Finland), proposed on 4 December, fifteen new substances as candidates for approval. With these substances, and 30 are included in the list prepared by the European body responsible for managing the processes of Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals in order to ensure consistency across the European Union.

CLP REGULATION: NEW DUTIES FOR INDUSTRY CLASSIFICATION, PACKAGING AND LABELING
The entry into force of EU Regulation 1272/2008 on the classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures, called CLP regulation brings with it new burdens for the industry. So, before December 1st 2010, all existing chemicals in the EU market must be classified and labeled under this new regulation, which is mandatory across the EU. Also, before 1 June 2015, the blends also must be labeled and packaged according to the PLC.

THE DRAFT LAW ON SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY FORESEES THE CREATION OF A SEAL IN CSR
The Spanish government approved in late November, the draft bill for Sustainable Economy; it provided a set of policy changes and structural reforms to foster a better economic environment, competitiveness and sustainability.

STUDENTS OF IES SANTA EULALIA OF TERRASSA, VISIT LEITAT´S PREMISES
On the 15th of December a group students of the 2nd grade of Image Training Cycle, of the Santa Eulalia High School, Terrassa, visited the Technological Center LEITAT. In addition to visiting and learning about their facilities, young people also saw some of the prototypes developed in the center and learned more about some of the quality tests performed in their laboratories. For example, attendees could see the LED created swimwear for the Olympic team synchronized swimming or material for Formula 1.

ALIMENTARIA BROKERAGE EVENT
As part of the FOOD International Trade Fair 2010 to be held in Barcelona from 22 to 26 March, the Enterprise Europe Network will organize Catalonia on 23 and 24, a brokerage in order to facilitate arrangements between suppliers, companies, researchers, associations and technical institutions across the opportunity to arrange bilateral meetings.

CAMPAIGN TO ENHANCE THE USE LOW ENERGY LIGHT BULBS
The Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade has launched a campaign to promote the use of energy saving light bulbs; for it, 12,000 sales points across Spain have, available to consumers, a 2x1 pack of light bulbs 14-15 W, 75 W conventional equivalents, at a price of between 3.95 to 3.99 Euro. A total of 1,200,000 units have been distributed.
